Eager to feel what having sex feels? Want to be happy? Excited for the pleasure of sex? Well, Lucky for you, it’s not what our topic is all about. But before we go to our main topic I have 2 question for you. Are you ready for the consequences that sex brought? And last, are you brave enough?
During the adolescent period, the teenager is more eager to know about sex this is because the sexual maturation process produces sexual interest and thought processes. According to a study in the year 1996 that documented interviews of a sample of adolescent girls and boys. The girls were less likely to state that they ever had sex than adolescent boys. Among boys and girls who had experienced sexual intercourse, the proportion of girls and boys who had recently had sex were regularly sexually active was the same. Let us move down to our next topic I’ve gathered some of the factors that affect the sexual behavior of a teenager.
There are many factors that affect teenager to have a sexual intercourse. Many of the factors are the following;
Well, it is one of the leading factors why the teenager is having sexual intercourse. A teenager is eager and curious to find out more about sex. According to Kath Albury, a chief investigator. The Australia Institute’s findings show that 84 percent of boys and 60 percent of the girls aged 16 and 17 have looked at porn on the internet. This only shows how curiosity of teenager affects their mind.
Another factor is poverty, due to poverty many factors of it leads teenager to initiate sexual intercourse. Some of it is the lack of information, lack of education, poverty of time, social relation and other factors of poverty. Lacking information and education greatly affect poor teenager choosing to stop going to school and thinking about creating a family which is not a good reason to think about.
- Poor Parenting and Broken Home
Poor Parenting and Broken Home are also a factor. A teenager who comes from Broken Home is more likely to have sex before the age of 16. According to Nicole Martin who posted an article on The Telegraph, around 25 percent of divorced or separated couples said they had engaged in underage sex compared with only 13 percent of teenagers whose parent were married or cohabiting, founded by The Family Education Trust.
Also according to the report, they had questioned 2,250 children aged 13 to 15. It is shown that the high divorce rate in Britain had serious implications for children’s attitudes towards sex. Poor Parenting affect the sexual behavior of the adolescent because they don’t have much attention and feel like they are not important leading them to be oppressed and divert their attention into something they like.
- And Lastly is Lack of Education
Lacking education about sex can lead teenager into having a sexual intercourse. In India who is known to have the best sex education program in the world. Indonesia is more likely the opposite of it. According to the article of Sher who posted it on AffinityMagazine who are living in Indonesia. According to her, the sex topic is still taboo in her country where the majority are Muslims. They still think that sex is only an act where two individual is releasing their temptation and lust when in fact sex is not just an act but an important thing to discuss.
Now that I discussed some of its factors let’s talk about the consequences brought by initiation of sexual intercourse of teenager.
- Teenage Pregnancy
According to the United Nations, Population Fund or (UNFPA)”Pregnancies among girls less than 18 years of age have irreparable consequences. It violates the rights of the girls, with life-threatening consequences in terms of sexual and reproductive health, and poses high development cost for communities, particularly in perpetuating the cycle of poverty.” Many teenagers are ending in this situation that will lead into early parenthood.
- Early Parenthood
Being a parent in such young age are a great problem considering it is not planned and a burden to a teenager who is not ready to be a parent. Many aspects affected by this is substantial financial burden to society, estimated at $10.9 billion annually lost in tax revenues, public assistance, child health care, foster care, and involvement with the criminal justice system (NCPTUP, 2011)
- And last is the Risk of STDs, HIV, and AIDS
The emergence of HIV, AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases are greatly threatening the life and the dream of an individual. According to the CDC who surveyed high school students in U.S in the year 2015. Young people aged ranging 13 to 24 accounted for an estimated 22% of all new HIV diagnosis in the United States in that year. It also is shown that among those young people diagnosed with HIV were gay and bisexual males. It just represents that it greatly affect those individuals under LGBT.
And there are those factors why sexual intercourse happens to teenagers and the consequences of sex. Being informative can be the key for us to know and to be ready.
